Franca Florio, after whom the room is named, was an important woman in the history of the city of Palermo between the end of the 19th century and the mid-20th century. Beloved and esteemed by many in the salons of Palermo, she was defined by Italian poet and activist Gabriele D’Annunzio as “l’Unica”, “The one and only”. She played a fundamental role in managing the family’s economy, which included banks, shipyards, tuna fisheries, saltworks and wineries.
